New Year be Phenomenal!

Best way to start the new year is to inhale and read Maya and Be Phenomenal!

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm
of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

The Lovely Bones book review

The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
Published by Little, Brown & Company

I just finished reading this very upsetting story. The narrator of the book is a young dead teenager. She describes how her death affects the people who are left behind. She is in her version of heaven watching her family, her killer, the neighbours, the police and all the activities after her death. My stomache was in a knot the entire time I was reading, it was just so sad. How she died and how her family came apart is just wrenching to read. It is a very well paced novel and I read it quite quickly. I didn't care for the ending, took away from the way the story was unfolding. I hear they have made a movie of this novel. The visual representation of "The Lovely Bones" if they are at all true to the words of this novel will be unwatchable. I can't say I liked reading this book, it hurt.

The so elusive Pout-a-Porter Lancome Chris and Tell lipstick on a lucky model. Lancome are launching the colour next year, it will be available Spring 2010! Isn't it a great shade? Doesn't it make you happy? Just imagine if you were able to find a tube and wear it? Nothing like a new lipstick to make your day shine brighter :)

Thank you Lancome ♥

I won a lovely Lancome prize from Kerry Diamond on The Lancome Blog. Have you visited there? http://www.thelancomeblog.com/ It is a great place to get new ideas on how to apply your makeup. I swoon often at the wonderful pallets of colours that they show. The new Winter makeup line is stunning! Have you seen the pictures of Kate Winslet? They are going to sell so much Tresor and that awesome red lipstick :D

Are you looking forward to Christmas? I love all the decorating. Lots of feathers and pink shiny birds in my tree ;) We make lots of paper decorations with paper and recycle cards we have received through out the year. Above is a pic of an ornament we made last year. Fun stuff :)

You are or You're not Your

When will my mind quit confusing your for you're? How many times do I type your when I mean to type you're. Makes me flush with embarrassment to make this mistake over and over. It usually happens when I am quickly sending a note but no excuse! I need to stop this, it is irritating me :p

Pepsi Summer

My Pepsi Flip film... A small thank you to the company that gave me my Flip Video Recorder :D I am just learning how it works, so it is a bit choppy as I play with the buttons. I hope it gives you a sunny summertime feel ;) Now if I could only figure out how to set the date etc. I guess I should stop goofing with it and read the directions. It is a sweet little device.

Catching up

Okay now its been a couple of weeks since I've updated. Sunny weather, pool, summer is finally here! WOOT! How was Father's Day? My hubby received barbecue tools. New long handled basting silicone brush and a new two sided metal grill scraper :D He is all about the BBQ. Strawberry Shortcake for dessert. I made a vanilla cake, chopped strawberries and we had my favourite Chapman's vanilla ice-cream with it. I hope all the dad's out there were made to feel special.

BE

Resonate with your authentic self.

Quit saying "yes" when you want to say "no"

Wear what you want, stop worrying about "other" voices.

Listen to your intuition and act on it the way that feels "right for you"

Trust your own instinct. Your mistakes might as well be your own, instead of someone else's. ~Billy Wilder

Good instincts usually tell you what to do long before your head has figured it out. ~Michael Burke

Trust yourself. You know more than you think you do. ~Benjamin Spock, Baby and Child Care, 1977

Instinct is untaught ability. ~Bain

Instinct is intelligence incapable of self-consciousness. ~John Sterling

Trust your hunches. They're usually based on facts filed away just below the conscious level. ~Joyce Brothers

Intuition is a spiritual faculty and does not explain, but simply points the way. ~Florence Scovel Shinn

Reasoning at every step he treads,
Man yet mistakes his way,
Whilst meaner things, whom instinct leads,
Are rarely known to stray.
~William Cowper

The most decisive actions of our life... are most often unconsidered actions. ~André Gide, The Counterfeiters, 1926

A leader or a man of action in a crisis almost always acts subconsciously and then thinks of the reasons for his action. ~Jawaharlal Nehru

An artist's instinct is more refined than the typical mortal's. ~Holden Rinehart

I suspect we have internal senses. The mind's eye since Shakespeare's time has been proverbial; and we have also a mind's ear. To say nothing of dreams, one certainly can listen to one's own thoughts, and hear them, or believe that one hears them: the strongest argument adducible in favour of our hearing any thing. ~Augustus William Hare and Julius Charles Hare, Guesses at Truth, by Two Brothers, 1827

Instinct is the nose of the mind. ~Madame De Girardin

I would rather trust a woman's instinct than a man's reason. ~Stanley Baldwin

But possess yourself of It by the very elimination of [individual] being, and you hold a marvel! Thrusting forward to This, attaining, and resting in Its content, seek to grasp It more and more, understanding It by that intuitive thrust alone, but knowing its greatness by the beings that follow upon It and exist by Its power.~Plotinus

Natural knowledge is that which the soul can acquire through the use of its natural faculties and powers when investigating creation and the cause of creation -- in so far, of course, as this is possible for a soul bound to matter… Supranatural knowledge, on the other hand, is that which enters the intellect in a manner transcending its own means and power; that is to say, the intelligible objects that constitute such knowledge surpass the capacity of an intellect joined to a body, so that a knowledge of them pertains naturally only to an intellect which is free from the body. Such knowledge is infused by God alone when He finds an intellect purified of all material attachment and inspired by divine love.~Philokalia

Then said Mahamati: Pray tell us, Blessed One, what is the nature of Self-realization by reason of which we shall be able to attain Transcendental Intelligence?
The Blessed One replied: Transcendental Intelligence rises when the intellectual-mind reaches its limit and, if things are to be realized in their true and essence nature, its processes of mentation, which are based on particularized ideas, discriminations and judgments, must be transcended by an appeal to some higher faculty of cognition, if there be such a higher faculty. There is such a faculty in the intuitive-mind (Manas), which as we have seen is the link between the intellectual-mind and Universal Mind. While it is not an individualized organ like the intellectual-mind, it has that which is much better direct dependence upon Universal Mind. While intuition, does not give information that can be analyzed and discriminated, it gives that which is far superior, self-realization through identification.~Buddhism

Intuitive-mind is one with Universal Mind by reason of its participation in Transcendental Intelligence and is one with the mind-system by its comprehension of differentiated knowledge. Intuitive-mind has no body of its own nor any marks by which it can be differentiated. Universal Mind is its cause and support but it is evolved along with the notion of an ego and what belongs to it, to which it clings and upon which it reflects. Through intuitive-mind, by the faculty of intuition which is a mingling of both identity and perceiving, the inconceivable wisdom of Universal Mind is revealed and made realizable. Like Universal Mind it can not be the source of error.~Buddhism

Mary Chapin Carpenter returns to the stage

Sometimes you are not sure of what you are trying to do; you are just trying to be happy. *Mary Chapin Carpenter

Mary hasn't been performing for awhile due to ill health but recently went on stage again after a two year absence. You can read about it here in this article from the Huffington Post.

What makes you happy?

Did you know that TUCKERVILLE is going to be back on tv this Saturday? I know, Tanya Tucker is in California now. I wonder what mischief she will get up to this time? Starts at 9pmET/6pmPT www.cmt.ca

Did I also mention that Paolo Nutini has a new CD being released next week? Thought I might have :D

What are the things that make you happy? That make your smile turn up high voltage and you are just glad to be?

My big smile inducers are my children, nature and chocolate :D

Being a Winner

So I began entering contests roughly one month ago. So far I have won two gift certificates (though neither have arrived in the mail) Two t-shirts, both cool and my kids made off with them. One book, which has remained in my possession. Not big wins but nice and so much more fun getting the mail now. OH, freebies of course... Carnation Instant Breakfast pouch came in the mail, tried it, too much of something first thing in the morning, needs to be utilized with something solid in your stomach as well. PGSampler, my husband grabbed the razor with the five blades(I share) It came with shampoo samples as well, I got to use those. Two free posters from Environment Canada, kids took them, they were very pretty. I can't remember anything else that has come, I have a few more on the way, fingers crossed.

My dream bicycle

Now isn't this the prettiest bike you have ever seen? I want one now! The only hiccup is the price :p isn't it always the way? If I had a million dollars I would buy bicycles for every one who wanted one. I would build a bicycles only town. I would join the Cadbury Bicycle Factory to build bicycles for Ghana, Africa... oh hey, I'm already doing that as a woman of lesser means ;) I think everyone should have a bike and use it. For more choices of colours and styles of these cooler than the North Pole bikes check out http://www.nirve.com

Some Spring Views

A wee caterpillar I found hiding under a pot on the patio. I moved him to the cherry tree.

Some of the daffodils that bloomed along the garden path.

I Hate Whine blog

Ihatewhine blog is offering a prize of Kiss My Face kids products, Safari themed. http://ihatewhine.blogspot.com/2009/05/kiss-my-face-giveaway.html
My kids are very picky but I think animal pictures and a nice fragrance would win them over pretty quickly. Go check it out.

Tired

Woke up tired, cold in my bones with a headache behind my eyes. I didn't start feeling well again till 3 in the afternoon. I figure I must have been dehydrated. I had a cup of tea in the morning, no milk, so I just sipped a bit. Wrapped myself in blankets and slept awhile. Got up around noon had a mango and two glasses of water. Felt better. So tip of the day is drink your water and don't wait till you actually feel thirsty or feel weary like I did. Look after YOU!

A little bit more

So I have advanced since my last blogging adventure, this time I have a second post ;) I've been ruminating on what I want this space to be. I guess it will be a space for me to put my discoveries in. Some pictures for sure, because I adore a good visual :D
